General insurance usually includes motor, travel, business, home, health, student and accident insurance. You can shop around for general insurance and buy direct, or get advice.
General insurance only pays out when an insured event occurs. It includes home insurance (contents and buildings), car insurance, travel insurance, private medical insurance, pet insurance, accident, sickness or unemployment insurance to protect your income, mortgage or loan payments also called Payment protection insurance, critical illness insurance, and long-term care insurance.

Thus general insurance includes everything. Many risks are there that can be covered with the help of general insurance. You may keep yourself having any general plan or policy. In this way, a general insurance may secure anybody from their loss, which can occur or cannot occur. Many risks are there that can be covered with the help of general insurance.
There a large number of insurance deals on the market. Hence, it is worth shopping around and comparing key points such as suitability for your particular needs, cost, flexibility, risks if you miss a payment or wish to cancel or switch, and terms such as the policy pay out date and other restrictions.

When you contact an insurance provider, they will give you details of the service they offer. This can normally be found in the ‘about our service document’. Buying your health insurance from the same insurance company that provides your other insurance policies will get you a discount. All insurers will normally offer a discount if you buy more than one policy from them.

Once you have discussed what you need and answered all the questions about yourself and what you want to insure, the intermediary, insurance company or the firm selling you the insurance will give you key policy information. This sets out the essential facts. You can check whether a firm or individual is FSA authorized by using the FSA online ‘Check our Register’ service. You can buy insurance after getting advice, or based on information after shopping around. Read our related article to understand the difference between buying with or without advice and the relative pros and cons.

It is good to look through your health insurance policy at least once a year or as often as you think changes have occurred in your health or that of your family member. This will help you confirm you always have sufficient coverage. While doing this routine check you can also find out you have coverage you no longer need.

The European Health Insurance Card was introduced in 2006 to replace the E111. The card allows you to have access to state healthcare in European Economic Area countries, such as Iceland, France and Spain, for a reduced fee and sometimes even for free. It costs nothing and needs to be renewed after five years, but it cannot be used by those who go abroad with the sole intention of receiving medical treatment. It covers medical costs in most countries in Europe, although it is not a substitute for travel insurance.

The European Health Insurance Card will allow you access to the same state-provided healthcare as a resident of the country you are visiting. However, many countries expect the patient to pay towards their treatment, and even with an EHIC, you might be expected to do the same. You may be able to seek reimbursement for this cost when you are back in the UK if you are not able to do so in the other country.

A European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) is needed when you travel to another country in the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland. If you become ill while abroad, the EHIC gives access to state-provided medical treatment in the country you are visiting. The card also covers any treatment you need for a chronic disease or pre-existing illness, and routine maternity care. Kidney dialysis and oxygen treatment are also covered but you will need to arrange these in advance. The EHIC does not cover you if medical treatment is the main purpose of your trip.

The EHIC is not a substitute for travel insurance, which is always recommended. There are some things that the EHIC does not cover, such as repatriation. It is valid for between three and five years. To see if yours is still valid, just check the expiry date on the card. You cannot use the card after it has expired so it is important to check before you travel. You can renew your card up to six months before the expiry date.

The European Health Insurance Card is free. You can apply for or renew a European Health Insurance Card online. You can also apply by phone on 0845 606 2030 or by post using an application form available from your local post office. The EHIC does not cover you if you need private healthcare, or attention that is not provided by the state healthcare system. It will also not cover any travel costs, including rescue from a mountaintop via helicopter, or if you need to be brought back to the UK after an accident.

It is also important to note that not all regions in the EEA necessarily have state healthcare, subsequently the EHIC will not be of much use in these areas. Hence, it is important to have both an EHIC and a valid private travel insurance policy. You will thus come across some insurers who will insist you hold an EHIC. Many will be ready to waive the excess if you have EHIC.

A National Insurance Number is necessary because there are circumstances when you need one, such as claiming benefit. If, for whatever reason, you do not have a National Insurance (NI) number, it is possible to apply for one. Your National Insurance number is your own personal account number, it is unique to you and you will keep the same one all your life.

The number makes sure that the National Insurance contributions and tax you pay are properly recorded on your account. It also acts as a reference number when communicating with the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) and Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC). You must keep your number safe and not disclose it to anyone who does not need it. This will help to prevent identity fraud.
You will be sent a National Insurance number automatically just before your 16th birthday if you live in the United Kingdom, and your parents or guardian is getting Child Benefit for you. If you’re between 16 and 20 years old and have not received a National Insurance number contact the National Insurance Registrations Helpline on 0845 915 7006 for advice. Lines are open 8.00 am to 5.00 pm, Monday to Friday.
You must apply for a National Insurance number if you need claim benefits and tax credits. With this number, you will have the right to work in the UK and you are entitled to apply for a student loan. Jobcentre Plus will arrange an Evidence of Identity (EOI) interview for you or send you a postal application. They will confirm the date, time and location of your interview. They will also tell you what information and documentation is required to support your application.
You will need to prove your identity to the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) if you are starting work or looking for work and need an National Insurance number. You need an National Insurance number in order to claim benefit, pension or allowance. DWP will accept a range of original documents when you are proving your identity. The following list is not exhaustive and you should always bring as many identity documents as you can to your interview, for example:
•	valid passport (UK or foreign)
•	national identity card (UK or foreign)
•	residence permit or residence card (including biometric immigration residency documents)
•	full birth certificate
•	adoption certificate
•	full marriage certificate
•	civil partnership certificate
•	driving license (UK or foreign)

If you do not have any of these identity documents, then you can still apply for a National Insurance number and the information you supply will be checked and may be sufficient to prove your identity

Secured medical loans are chiefly taken out for meeting various types of medical expenses such as an accident or illness. This medical loan is called a secured medical loan because it is given against collateral. The collateral offered as security against the loan could be your home or any of your valuable property such as land, vehicle, share certificates or jewelry.

The loan amount you get corresponds to the current market value of the collateral you offer at the time taking out the loan. After sanctioning of the medical loan amount, it is paid directly to you to help pay the medical costs and related expenses such as doctor visits, diagnostic tests and procedures, medications, in-home equipment like hospital beds and oxygen tanks, nursing assistance and so on.

The traditional sources of quick secured loans are banks and other financial institutions at varied interest rates. These lending firms have also online services, along with other independent lenders. This online process give you loans more quickly compared to other types of loans and lot cheaper also due to less overhead costs. Many online brokers offer searchable databases, or simply collect customer data and preferences, and then promptly deliver product options and rates. Understandably, by comparing various loan quotes you will be able to get a better deal. Also, fast secured loan can also be availed by those people that hold bad credit history

This loan can be taken even if you are covered by medical insurance. However, these loans are usually used for financing elective treatments. Elective treatments are those which are not actually related to health problems, and are neither covered by insurance nor the NHS. Such categories include plastic surgery or cosmetic treatments which are only covered under certain circumstances such as necessitating due to accidents or a disease that causes cosmetic problems. However, some companies are now offering medical loans for elective surgeries like a tummy tuck eyelid surgery, liposuction and any other procedures that may bring confidence and satisfaction to a person.

In order to apply for a secured medical loan, you would need to send an application form to the bank or lending institution. Depending on where you would apply, the requirements may vary. However, it is advisable to have at least two years of consistent employment, a minimum monthly income of 1000 UK pounds and a credit score of at least 580. There are also lenders, both online and offline, that offer bad credit secured medical loans. The requirements would be more stringent, but once your application is approved, you can use this opportunity to improve your credit rating.

This type of loan is becoming more popular compared to other types of loans, including credit cards, because the interest charged is significantly lower as it is provided against collateral. Moreover, a medical loan can provide more funds than the ones included in the credit limit of a credit card. Besides, by using your medical loan you leave your credit card in hand for any additional expenses that may arise after the procedure. However, in addition to collateral, you may need to have bank account and updated bank statements and preferably be employed in a stable job with regular salary or other means of income.

The UK Health insurance plans and dental insurance can help with healthcare bills.Health insurance is a type of insurance where your chosen insurance company pays the medical costs whenever you are sick or meets an accident. The claim of medical costs will all depend on the type of health insurance plan you have purchased. The insured is obligated to pay a monthly premium to the health insurance company.

Health cash plans provide limited cash sums towards everyday healthcare bills. Different policies cover one or a combination of healthcare such as dental care, optical care, physiotherapy, or stays in hospital. So for example a policy will pay out a maximum of £100 per year towards optical care bills you have incurred, and £10 for each night you need stay in hospital up to a maximum of say 16 nights. Most providers offer a range of covers with different levels of payouts, and the smaller the payouts the cheaper the premiums.

Some policies have age restrictions and will only cover you if you are under a certain age, often 65 or below. If you have pre-existing health problems, the cash plan may not pay out on certain types of healthcare. Some plans also apply qualifying periods which means that they will not pay out towards any treatment undergone in the first few months of the policy, so shop around and make sure you get the cover you need.

In order to deal with escalating dental care prices, it has become imperative for everyone to get insured under the dental insurance policy. Even a casual visit to the dentist costs quite a lot, and if you have to undergo a prolonged treatment it can be very expensive. A dental insurance plan assists and encourages people to be more regular and prompt in their visit to the dentist, so that their dental problems, if any, can be discovered on time and their treatment started promptly so that their teeth can be prevented from greater damage.

Dental insurance is a type of health cash plan that focuses on dental care. Most of these pay for treatments such as crowns, root canal work, bridges and dentures up to an agreed maximum each year. If your teeth are in good health you can also take out a capitation scheme: you pay a monthly fee in return for check-ups, regular treatment, X-rays and extractions.

You will need to check your dental insurance plan carefully. More serious work such as oral cancer, surgery and serious dental abscesses are often excluded. Some plans apply qualifying periods which means that they will not pay out towards any treatment undergone in the first few months of the policy, so shop around and make sure you get the cover you need.

Also, read the paperwork and ask questions if you don’t understand anything. Make sure you check what you are covered or not covered for and Tell the insurance company if you have any existing medical conditions.

There are both private medical care and state-funded provision in the UK. The majority of medical services in Britain are provided by the NHS. This service is paid for through taxation and is cost free at delivery point. Although this medical care is thought to be good, waiting times can often be long for some operations and procedures.

Private medical insurance usually means you can get treated quicker than going on the NHS. But make sure you check what is and is not covered. Like all insurance the cover you get varies, but basic private medical insurance may pick up the costs of most in-patient treatments, including tests and surgery, and day-care surgery and some extend to out-patient treatments such as specialists and consultants.

Cover can be purchased on a full medical underwriting basis, which means you will be asked a number of questions about your health and, based on the information you provide, the insurer will decide the conditions of your cover. You can also apply for cover on a moratorium basis, which means you will not be asked any questions about your health, but if you have suffered from any health conditions in the last five years, these will automatically be excluded from cover initially.

However, you can’t take out cover now for treatment you know you are going to need. If you have had health problems in the past, also known as pre–existing conditions, your insurer may also exclude those conditions from your cover. If you are asked to disclose these when applying for the insurance you must do so, or you could invalidate your policy, which means the insurance company won’t pay out if you make a claim.

Also, the private medical insurance policy does not cover the treatment of chronic medical conditions. There are various definitions of chronic conditions depending on the policy, but broadly it is a long–term medical condition which is likely to continue to need regular or periodic treatment. Some exclude certain types of treatments such as out–patient treatments, routine treatments such as health checks, dental care or experimental treatments. Most also exclude routine pregnancy, HIV/AIDS, fertility treatment, mental or psychiatric conditions, and elective treatments you may choose to have, such as cosmetic surgery.

In order to keep cost down you need to shop around. It is a competitive market out there and both cover and costs vary from company to company. Many policies have a standard excess charge which means you agree to pay the first part of any claim, for example the first £50 or £100. If you agree to pay a higher excess you might get a cheaper policy. Or you could choose cover that only kicks in if NHS services are not available within a certain timeframe.

Be clear about what you need. You may not want the highest level of cover. Always compare what’s covered by a policy, not just the price. Some may be cheaper than others, but they may not offer the same level of protection.

A Critical illness insurance policy is designed to provide the policy holder with financial help at the time of any serious illness. Critical illness generally refers to serious diseases such as cancer, heart attack, stroke, kidney failure etc.

The main difference between a health insurance policy and a critical illness insurance cover is that, while a health insurance will pay money for meeting the medical expenses, critical illness insurance will pay a lump sum. The money obtained through this cover can be used for meeting both medical expenses and other requirements.

Thus, if you are the only bread getter in your family you can have a perfect financial assistance and get back to the normal life with out having to find other monetary sources.

Policy costs are determined by various factors such as age, medical condition and the amount of coverage purchased. If you are a smoker you will be laced in the high risk category and will be charged higher premiums.

Also if your family has a history of any serious diseases you may be denied coverage or asked to pay higher premium. Also, the policy may exclude coverage for a pre-existing condition.

Health insurance has become a necessity in the current socio-economic situation where the percentage of people getting affected with life threatening diseases is shooting up. Latest studied conducted by health organizers in the UK have revealed that more than 15% of the people are undergoing life threatening diseases such as heart attack and stroke much before the age of retirement.

Health insurance policies are of different types. There are private health insurance policies and government funded health insurance policies. Group insurance policy is another type offered by certain organizations to it’s members. If you only require a basic policy with common features, the best option is government funded policies such as Medicare and Medicaid.
If yours is a list of more requirements, you can have various private insurance policies with great flexibility. Yet you will have to pay more to get such policies. By doing ample research you can reduce costs considerably.

The major factors affecting the cost of premiums are age, health condition, life style etc. If you are a healthy person under the age of 40, there is every chance for you to get a cheap policy. If you have smoking habit, you will be considered as a high risk applicant and will have to pay higher premiums.

Comparison shopping is the ideal way to ensure getting the best deal available. So get different quotes and compare them to take the best one prevailing.

Tourist health insurance should be something you should think about when you are planning a holiday. Accidents, mishaps, thefts or illness can happen at any time, and it could especially costly inconvenient if you are in a foreign country. Hence, a suitable insurance is required to protect you against unforeseen events while on your tour. However, finding cheaper and better holiday insurance does take a bit of work, maybe only fifteen minutes of your time on the internet. It could save you money and get you better travel cover at the same time.

Tourist health insurance ensures that your money will be refunded if airline unexpectedly goes out of business a week prior to your trip or you become unwell and are unable to travel and vacation deals are not carried out. There are other areas also where travel insurance can help you. There are different types of tourist health insurance cover. It is specially designed for people who need health care protection for a significant period of time when they are out of the country. It protects the policy holders from major and minor medical emergencies, illnesses, hospitalization, surgery, evacuation, accidents, etc during their travels.
A comparison site may be best suitable to compare the prices and level of cover provided by many different policies.

Buying a health insurance from an insurance market where there are numerous providers operating is not a great issue. The cost and the suitability are the prime factors that are to be given prominence while taking out a health insurance. As stated earlier, there are a lot of insurance providers available both online and offline. Insurance agents are also sources for getting health covers.
With online method, you can easily get multiple health insurance quotes online, compare and make a purchase and the best part is, all these is done in the comfort of your home or office.

The traditional ways of calling up insurance company or through agent and broker are too time consuming. You will probably need to make a few phone calls, make a few trips down to the company and sum all these up, you will probably spend a few days before getting your hand on a few quotes.

Using the Internet, you can get all the details of various types of covers as almost all the insurance companies have official web sites. What all you will need to do is fill up an online application form and wait for the provider to replay with quotations. Once you get all the quotes that you needed, browse through and compare the coverage and prices, then decide which company is giving you the best values for your money.

Cost of the policy is not the lone factor which decides the suitability of the cover. You will also analyze things such as claiming procedures, adequacy of the cover and the reputability of the provider. Never go with a provider with bad reputation or low rating.

Nothing is static in this world so as your health. If you will have to face a set back with you health a health insurance policy can be a huge help for tiding over the crisis. So take out the right cover and enjoy peace of mind.
